New from Accurate Fishing Products is a rugged Offshore Cutters/Pliers combo offered in two sizes -- a 7- and an 8-inch model -- and designed with replaceable cutter-blade and gripping-jaw inserts. The Accurate Offshore Cutters/Pliers are made from aircraft-grade, 6061-T6 aluminum stock, with a natural satin-platinum finish which matches perfectly the finish on all Accurate Platinum TwinDrag™ reels and Boss Magnum TwinDrag™ reels. With a shape ergonomically designed to fit comfortably in an angler's hand, the easy-to-grip cutters/pliers are made to securely hold a fish while removing bait or lure hooks, and to easily cut virtually all sizes of monofilament line, fluorocarbon leader, single-strand and multi-strand wire, plus high-tech braided lines. The 7-inch model, at 4.8 ounces, is ideal for cutting all sizes of nylon monofilament and fluorocarbon, plus braided lines and light wire. The 8-inch model, at 5.6 ounces, has increased cutting and gripping power and is well suited for mono, all single- and multi-strand wire and larger cable, and all braided lines from "micros" to "super" sizes. The 8-inch model also offers extended "reach," when extracting hooks. Both the cutter blades and gripping jaws of the Offshore Cutters/Pliers are constructed of super-tough, lightweight, 440C heat-treated stainless steel. Although both models have been shop-tested to retain blade sharpness after hundreds of cuts -- snipping so precisely and cleanly that no frayed ends are created even in braided lines down to as thin, flexible and light as 20-pound test -- if either the cutter blades or gripping jaws eventually do show wear they are easily replaced via quick-out screws. "Most of our field testers were surprised at how light, yet rugged, these new pliers are and how easily they cut Spectra, Spider Line and other braids," says David Nilsen, product designer and a partner in Accurate Fishing Products. "The microbraids are the most difficult to cut, because they are so flexible, supple and small in diameter, but the cutters worked great on as small as 20-pound test Spectra." Well-suited for gripping fish and extracting hooks, the sure-hold jaws of the new Accurate Offshore Cutters/Pliers are also handy to crimp soft-lead sleeves, to help snug-up the tag end of knots and to form wire connections like the Haywire Twist. Available as options are a protective, molded-nylon sheath and a self-coiling, safety lanyard. Auto-retracting like a phone cord, the lanyard has safety snaps at both ends which attach to the sheath and pliers handle. |
